Praça dos Açorianos (Azorean Square)
This square was built
on a leveled area of Guaíba River. A stone bridge is preserved. This
bridge was the connection of downtown with the southern zone and was built
by the slaves between 1842 and 1848. The monument in honor of the Azoreans
was made in 1973; it is a steel work, created by the gaúcho artist Tenius,
in honor of the arrival of the 60 Azorean couples at Porto Alegre, in
1752.
